May 28, 2025 – The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has revealed the new fake bank alert app, which is now more common and convincing than the earlier versions. In a recent update, they confirmed that people are using a mobile app called Opay++ to send fake bank transfer notifications that look real.
According to the statement, this app allows someone to simulate a credit alert that appears real at first. The findings showed that “the fake transaction will drop as a real bank SMS with the bank’s real name.” That means recipients might see an alert saying “N40,000 received,” but if they check their actual account balance, nothing has been added.
Stella Justice, a popular celebrity lawyer, reacted to this new update by saying, “Our bank balances must work.” This echoes the growing concern among business owners and people who have been victims of fake money transfers.
One person who shared her experience said, “This same incident happened to me some days back when someone sent me a fake alert. I lost 100k just like that!” This confirms that the latest fake bank alert app Opay++ is working, and make the SMS look similar to that of Opay and other banks.
These fake alerts look very real and works by pressuring the seller to release goods or services quickly. But as the ICPC stressed, “Be smart!” They also warned vendors not to release any item until the money reflects inside their account balance.
Mistakes to Know It’s a Fake Bank Alert App
- The account balance doesn’t increase, and the recipient opens their bank app or use USSD to confirm.
- Bad grammar or strange format can reveal a fake bank alert because legit alerts don’t say things like “U av receive 50,000.”
- Sender’s name looks off, for example, if you get a message from “Bank Nigeria” or “AlertFromHeaven,” be suspicious. However, the latest alert app uses real bank names.
- Overpayment tricks, which means sending an extra amount and asking for a refund. Many sellers are already advised not to fall for it.
- Only screenshots provided without actual bank account.

To play safe, use trusted banking apps like Opay that notify you immediately of any transaction. Many who use less secure banks without instant notifications are more likely to fall victim. Fake alert apps are real.
