The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Ministry of Education, has officially announced that trainers under the FG FME TVET programme will now earn N30,000 per student each month. This announcement came in a recent statement released by the ministry, highlighting the government’s continued push for skill development through the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) initiative.
To achieve national scale and high-quality delivery, the Federal Government is now calling on Skill Training Centres (STCs), Vocational Enterprise Institutions (VEIs), and Mastercraft Persons (MCPs) to apply for accreditation. Once accredited, these trainers will receive funding to provide hands-on training to Nigerian youths across the country.
According to the Ministry of Education, “Artisans mentoring apprentices will receive N30,000 monthly per student, while trainees will get N22,500 monthly stipends, plus starter packs to begin.” This is part of the effort to boost employment, empower local talent, and support technical education in Nigeria.
Here are the requirements for each training category:
Requirements for Vocational Enterprise Institutions (VEIs)
- Registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC)
- Use of NSQ-Based Curricula
- At least one qualified instructor per trade, with a 1:40 ratio
- One Quality Assurance Assessor (QAA) and one Internal Quality Assurance Manager (IQAM)
- Basic facilities like workshops, classrooms, offices, and restrooms
- Evidence of previous training programs and certification outcomes
Requirements for Skill Training Centres (STCs)
- CAC registration
- NSQ-Based Curricula must be adopted
- One experienced artisan or qualified instructor per programme, minimum NSQ Level 3
- One QAA and one IQAM per trade
- Sufficient support staff for each technical area
- Facilities such as training workshops, offices, and restrooms
- Records showing experience in training and certification
Requirements for Mastercraft Persons (MCPs)
- CAC certificate or National Identification Number (NIN)
- Adoption of NSQ-Based Curricula
- At least one senior craftsperson per programme with NSQ Level 3
- Training ratio of one junior craftsperson per five trainees
- Basic physical infrastructure like a workshop and restrooms
- History of past training efforts and outcomes

How to Apply
The application for accreditation is now open, and eligible institutions or individuals can apply directly through the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) portal: https://www.digitalnbte.nbte.gov.ng/TVET/TVETApplication2. After submitting your application on the NBTE portal, make sure to copy your User ID and use it with your password to log in and complete your profile
