A few years ago I fell victim to an online Message which said I have won a grant from the federal government of the United States. I was super excited as a young entrepreneur, so I decided to follow the steps given to me. The long story cut short, I later paid a certain amount of money just to solidify my position, only to discover that I had been defrauded. I did my little research online and found out that the guy took money from me with what was called the grant format.

Grant is money from the government, whether federal, state, or local government, given to someone for a profitable project they are working on. It is like a gift and doesn’t come with repayment, just like a loan. So once the government gives you a grant, you can use the money just like you wish for anything. You are not expected to pay back the money.

I later begged the boy for an interview, and he explained it carefully to me. Below is a transcription of what the grant format is all about.

What is the Grant Format

When you are using to use the Grant Format, these are the major countries you should be targeting;

  • European Countries (Germany, Finland, Denmark, Netherlands, etc.)
  • Canada
  • The United States
  • Great Britain
  • In some cases, you can also look for clients in a place like Singapore and Israel

Grant Money from the Government is just like free money to whoever it is given to, so tell me, who doesn’t like free money given to them?

Some of the reasons why they use this format are because:

Nobody will suspect them

When using the grant format to work, anybody you promise that you can help get a grant from the department of finance in Washington will only ask you “how you can do it.” So when you tell them your plans and what they need to pay for processing fees, it becomes straightforward to collect money from them.

It is easy to write

Just a simple Google search gives them a lot of information that can be used against individuals.

It can work for both young people and Adults

A lot of young people are looking for grant money to spend. Most of them claim that they are working on a certain project, so promising them that they can get a grant from the federal government will make them happy and listen to everything you have to say.

How they use the Grant Format for Billing

It all starts with a friend request that you get on your social media platform. It is advisable that once you get an unknown friend request on Facebook or any social media, always do well to ignore it. But before the friend request, we go down the rabbit hole to see the set-up of the activity.

1. Open a New Email Account

Typically the preparator opens a new email address. In most cases, they use a custom email address as opposed to the popular Gmail address. Typically they buy a domain name on Namecheap or any other domain seller or reseller, and this is to build authenticity.

So when you get a corporate email address telling you that you might be lucky to have over 1 million dollars as a grant for your project, then you should be really fearful and do your research properly.

2. A Well Designed Website

Next, you will be directed to a website where you will see well-detailed information about the package they are offering. You will see a lot of offerings claiming that the government is offering

That way, you tend to believe them and send money to them for the their grants.

3. A USA Phone Number

Now you might be wondering, how is this fake? This person has a US Phone number. The truth is that it is very easy to get a USA phone number. So you see that any Tom, Dick, and Harry can actually have a US phone number and use it for anything.

4. They use Adverts

When you visit some websites, and down the content area, you will see some typical examples of the Grant format for Yahoo. You will see adverts claiming that the Government is offering Twenty Million Dollars for anyone with an innovative idea.

Once you become tempted by this offer, that is when you start to fall prey to these guys.

A Sample Grant Format for Yahoo Message

Asides from the advert you see online, here is a sample message you might receive in your inbox.

“I am writing to congratulate you that because you pay your income taxes on time, you have been awarded a free $15,500 government grant! To get your grant, send us a message at youremail@youremail.com, then we will request your checking account information. Once processed after sending the required information, and we will direct deposit the grant into your bank account!

Please make sure you keep this information safe and never disclose it to anyone till we complete our processing and final documentation.

If you think you are qualified for this, please send your proof of tax, alongside your ID and other credentials to the email governmentgrantfund@gmail.com. Please note that selected participants will be contacted privately via email for further direction on how to proceed.

How they take money from you with The Grant Format.

Once you receive this message and go ahead to discuss or start interacting with the other party, these are the ways to identify it as fake.

You will be asked to pay an Authentication and Verification Fee

The billing comes with them asking you to pay for the authentication fee. Immediately they congratulate you on being selected, and they will ask you to send your (Passport, ID, Tax report), and Pay verification to a US account number.

They collect Your bank accounts

This is where it gets dicey. But once you submit your bank details, they will forward them to a hacker and you will get hacked.

Conclusion

Now you know how the Grant Format for Yahoo is used to take money from people, you should be wary of adverts online telling you that the government is looking to sponsor a project or any sort of thing like that.
